PROFESSIONAL TALENT

Bernard Purdie, Ambassador of The Rock Club

Hi there, I'm Bernard 'Pretty' Purdie, having played drums for over 60 years with luminaries such as Louis Armstrong, Aretha Franklin, Michael Bolton, Joe Cocker, Jeff Beck, Miles Davis, Roberta Flack, Hall & Oates, Tom Jones, Steely Dan, The Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonders, B.B. King, Bob Marley, Reuben Wilson, Galt McDermott, and Guru, just to name a few, and as the world's most recorded drummer having played and taught around the world, I know a good teaching program when I see it!

Here is a great opportunity for those of you who may have played an instrument in school or college and now have had to cut your hair, toe the corporate line and maybe raise a family. Frank McIlquham's, The Rock Club Performance Program allows you to rekindle your interest in playing, whilst being coached by my professional friends in a controlled environment. I strongly believe that The Rock Club will bring good music back to life. You may be rusty or have not picked up an instrument in years, and regardless what instrument you play or genre you like, The Rock Club Performance Program is your answer for an entry back to the music you have enjoyed.

I encourage you to join The Rock Club and take part in the Performance Program. As long as you can play the basic cords, keep a beat, sing in tune and have fun, Frank will do the rest. He will put you in a band environment with controlled jams at his studio, provide all the equipment you need and when you're ready, you get to perform at one of Hollywood's premier venues. Call your old music friends have them join with you. Then tell your family and friends to "watch out"; you are going to perform live.

Music is universal, music heals, music for peace.........
Be part of it

Jerry Salas, Head Coach and Clinician

Jerry Salas started playing guitar when he was about ten, and singing even younger. He was taught and inspired by his father Bill and brother Curly. Through his father and brother Jerry was exposed to a wide range of music, Country Western, Hawaiian and Mariachi from dad who played in all these types of groups professionally, and Rock and Roll, R&B and Jazz from brother Curls. Throw in a little Nat King Cole and Tony Bennett from uncle Ray who had a beautiful voice and there you have it.

By the mid-sixties Jerry and Curly were playing up and down the Sunset Strip in their own band "The Sticks"" with drummer Snoopy Pfisterer and bass player Ken Forssi who would leave to form the group "Love"" with Arthur Lee. During this period Snoopy brought in a TV producer to see the band and he loved Jerry’s look and voice and offered him a weekly spot on his show Shindig which was hugely successful at the time. He only wanted Jerry and not the band, so Jerry passed (oops). The Strip was an amazing place at the time, he would see bands like "The Doors", "Byrds", "Seeds" "Buffalo Springfield" among others, playing the same clubs and hanging out at Canters till four in the morning. During the late sixties the band was also recording original music every weekend.

In early 71 Jerry was drafted into the army and sent to Vietnam where he drove an armored personnel carrier for five months until he was heard singing at a hootch party at which time he was put in special services entertaining the troops all over Vietnam. Jerry was blessed with an early out of Vietnam and the army.

Upon returning to the States Jerry started playing L.A. clubs for almost a year, then was asked to sing for "El Chicano". His first album resulted in the hit single "Tell Her She’s Lovely", but prior to its release "El Chicano" was touring constantly and at one of the concerts in Seattle Jerry met Burton Cummings of the "Guess Who". Burton and Jerry hit it off and jammed for almost six hours after the show. The next night Burton showed up and asked Jerry to join the "Guess Who" and work on his upcoming solo project. Jerry had to decline due to contracts and his upcoming release that had "Tell Her..." on it.

Almost all of the seventies were spent writing, recording and touring with some of the best acts around, like Marvin Gay, ZZ Top, Temptations, Blue Oyster Colt, War, Ted Nuggent, The Jacksons, to name a few. Jerry recorded five albums on MCA Records with "El Chicano" and one on Shady Brook Records before leaving. After "El Chicano" Jerry worked in the Jingle studio session field, got married, got divorced, then got married again and had two girls, Sara and Amanda with wife Debbie. During this period Jerry sang on other friends’ albums, like Roland Bautista, guitar player for "Earth, Wind and Fire", with whom Jerry also toured. Roland and Larry Dunn, keyboardist for The Fire, also produced several tunes on one of Jerry’s solo projects.

In 2003 Jerry’s wife Debbie lost her 7 year battle with breast cancer and the family moved back home to L.A., where Sara, Amanda and dad are currently recording the first CD with production help from long time friend John Avila, who played bass for "Oingo Boingo" and co-produced with Danny Elfman. Upon returning to L.A. Jerry got the call from "El Chicano", asking if he would be interested in doing some concerts, which Jerry was happy to do. So with Sara and Amanda occasionally singing backgrounds the music has become a family affair once again!

He studied classical guitar at YSU and then moved to New York City to study bebop with guitar luminaries Joe Pass and Pat Martino. Mike's guitar style is an amalgamation of jazz, rock, blues, and neo-classical. He has a wealth of musical experience gained thru years of night clubs, concert halls, and recording studios. He's performed with some of the most eclectic jazz & blues musicians including a four year gig with organist Brother Jack McDuff, Albert King, big

band greats Les and Larry Elgart, and pianists Ferrante and Teicher to name just a few.

Many guitarists are well aware of Pachelli's technical prowess and understanding of complex musical theories & harmonic juxtapositioning. Mike's instructional book "Modal Mastery For Guitar Improvisation" and instructional DVD "Electric Guitar Method" are a must for all serious students. Mike is the recipient of many awards for his guitar expertise and five gold and platinum RIAA awards (for his work with Mariah Carey & Green Day).

In the 80's and 90's, besides having an active touring schedule, Mike hosted his own TV show in Florida on the WB affiliate. On TV Mike got to jam with and/or interview stars such as Paul McCartney, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Robert Plant, Eric Johnson, Zakk Wylde, Allan Holdsworth, Joe Satriani, and many, many others.

Pachelli has released 10 Cd’s as a band leader in a variety of styles including the 2007 Miles Davis-type quartet Cd "électricité" that features Andrew W.K on piano. A highlight of 2006 was the critically acclaimed acoustic guitar duet Cd "Two Of Us" with long time friend and mentor Phil Keaggy- released on the prestigious Solid Air Records label. In 2008 he co-produced "Paradise Sky" (with Randy Stonehill) as the soundtrack for the film "Fallen Angel: The Outlaw Larry Norman." Early in 2009 another Cd Mike co-produced with Phil Keaggy will be released called "Mystery Highway."

John Salvatore Scaglione, Guitar and Clinician

I was about 10 years old when I was exploring the hiding places of a new house we recently moved into when I found a BB King record called "live at the regal" in the back of a closet. I plugged in my green flip top mono record player and instantly fell in love with BB's guitar playing, his voice and the blues. I spent the next couple years studying BB's riffs and pretty much taught myself how to play guitar from that record. To this day BB is without a doubt my all time favorite guitarist along with Jimmy Page, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Ritchie Blackmore and Brian May.

Shortly after that while in the 7th grade my 8th grade friend Joey Belladonna who was a drummer, talked me into playing bass for his band MEDUSA because they already had two guitarists. I agreed, and so bass it was for me in my very first band. We played at a few school dances and did a whole lot of jamming but I switched back to guitar quickly after losing interest in the bass. Throughout middle school and high school I would play and sing with many of my own bands like BLUE STATIC, SUNNQUEST, and SNEAKERSTAR.

Joey went on to sing for ANTHRAX and i got my first big break when Billy Sheehan asked me to replace guitarist Mitch Perry in his band TALAS after seeing me perform with my group ZILLION, a band that often opened for Talas. I toured, recorded and wrote with TALAS for about two years and as we were preparing to release TALAS' fourth album on Gold Mountain Records, DAVID LEE ROTH asked Billy to join his new solo band. TALAS disbanded shortly after and with the help of my friend Mike Varney I started a glam rock group called ROCKCANDY. Rockcandy was spin off from a previous NUNO BETTENCOURT band called SINFUL and me. We released one record (yes vinyl LP) entitled "sucker for a pretty face" and had a semi regional hit with a song called "ball and chain". After rockcandy, I started a group called BABYBLUE who released a six song EP entitled "American Boys" and from baby blue I went on Tour with singer Michael Monroe from HANOI ROCKS in support of his first solo album "not fakin it" on mercury records. While hanging out at the cat club in NYC one evening, I bumped into a long time friend of mine, Fred Coury from the band CINDERELLA invited me to come to his studio and write a bit. Fred and I wrote and recorded a bunch of great songs together and we wound up moving from NY to LA to form a band with Stephen Pearcy of RATT called ARCADE. Arcade signed to Epic records and the band released 2 cd's for the label. In the 90's I also spent much time playing with bands and artists such as TIM KARR, DAVID YOUNG,CELL MATES, SUPERSONIC LOVE MACHINE, SOUL KITCHEN, BUTCHIE SWAINE ANDTHE UNBORN, TRANSISTER, BUTTERFLY JONES and THE CECIL PRUDHOLMEPROJECT.

Over the past year I have been in the sudio recording with, gigging with or writing with artists like Linda Perry, Alicia Keys, Courtney Love, Celine Dion, Daniel Powter, The Polyamoris Affair, Bigelf, The sterling Experience, Jesse Robitaille, Mylie Cyrus, Lou Gramm, Steve Plunkett, Jeff Silbar and Ashley Ballard. I am also putting the finishing touches on my first solo album entitled "the gospel of gloom and gladness".

Leo Nocentelli, Guitar Coach and Clinician

As the sole writer of such hits as (to name a few) of Cissy Strut, Look A Py Py, Same Ol' Thing, Rigor Mortis, Funky Miracle, 9 to 5, Ease Back, Lonesome and unwanted People, The World Is A Little Bit Under The Weather, and Cordova (and at times generously sharing credits with a vehicle he called The Meters), Nocentelli gained early recognition amongst his peers.

Over the years, Leo has continued to write well over 200 songs individually, as well as collaboratively, adding to an already charted list of hits such as, People Say, Ain't No Use, Fire On the Bayou, and the Mardi Gras anthem, Hey Pocky Way (the last two songs were recorded by the Grammy Award winning Neville Brothers).

In the recording studio, Leo has identifiably proven that his original innovation in mastering his sound has gained the respect and demand that has led him to become a "featured" guitarist. In addition to recording with a distinguished list of his peers, Leo has recorded with a list of Grammy Award Winners such as, Stevie Wonder, Bonnie Raitt, The Winans, The Supremes, The Temptations, Paul McCartney, Dr. John, Sting, Peter Gabriel, Robert Palmer, George Duke, The Dells, Jack Bruce, Manhattan Transfer, Bobby Womack, Al McKay, (Earth, Wind & Fire), and Robbie Robertson. The list continues with Academy Award winner Robert Mitchum. Other artists Leo has recorded with include, Mavis Staple, Etta James, Maceo Parker, Professor Longhair, Willie T, James Black, Lee Dorsey, James Booker and Jesse Roden.
